Azerbaijan boosts ferrous metals exports early this year

Azerbaijan saw a significant increase in its export of ferrous metals and related products during the first two months of 2025, according to the State Customs Committee, Azernews reports.

In January-February, the country exported more than 11.8 thousand tons of ferrous metals and goods made from them, with a total value of $11.7 million. This represents a 66.9% rise in value and a 68.8% increase in volume compared to the same period in 2024.

The report also noted that ferrous metals accounted for 0.25% of Azerbaijan’s total exports during the period, and 2.42% of non-oil exports—highlighting the growing role of industrial metals in the country’s non-oil economy.

In 2024, Azerbaijan exported 88,319 thousand tons of ferrous metals and products made from them, valued at $81.164 million.

This represents a decrease of $15.503 million, or 16.03%, in value, and a reduction of 12,419 thousand tons, or 12.3%, in volume compared to the same period last year.

During the 11 months, the export of ferrous metals and products accounted for 0.33% of Azerbaijan’s total exports and 2.63% of non-oil sector exports.

At the same time, in 2024 Azerbaijan imported 951,061 thousand tons of ferrous metals and products worth $1.08 billion. This is an increase of $77.591 million, or 7.7%, in value, and 138,895 thousand tons, or 17.1%, in volume compared to the same period last year.

The import of ferrous metals and products accounted for 6.34% of Azerbaijan’s total imports during this period.
