Removal of Olympic Rings
During the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, the Olympic rings were successfully removed from the Eiffel Tower overnight on September 26-27. This complex operation was necessary to prepare for winter weather, as the rings were designed for summer conditions.
Iconic Symbols
Alongside the Olympic Rings, the Paralympic Agitos were removed from the Arc De Triomphe the previous week. These symbols were among the most iconic of Paris 2024, along with the Olympic and Paralympic torches, all made by ArcelorMittal. The Olympic Cauldron also lit up the Jardin des Tuileries each night.
Sustainable Production
The rings and torches were created from ArcelorMittal’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel, sourced from scrap steel and renewable energy in France. After removal, the Olympic Rings will be melted in an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) and remade into steel beams for ArcelorMittal’s new headquarters in Luxembourg. This process highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability and circularity.
Commitment to Partnership
Aditya Mittal, CEO of ArcelorMittal, stated, “Being an Official Partner of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games allows us to showcase the beauty and potential of steel. ArcelorMittal is proud to be an official partner.”
