The European Union has approved a €3 million technical assistance project to support the development of Turkey’s green and low-carbon hydrogen ecosystem, with the country’s national gas supplier BOTAŞ named as the main beneficiary.
The project, titled “Boosting Green and Low-Carbon Hydrogen in Turkey,” aims to strengthen institutional capabilities and provide specialized training, technical expertise, and analytical support to accelerate the country’s transition to clean hydrogen technologies.
Key objectives of the project include:
- Building institutional capacity for hydrogen integration
- Delivering training and technical know-how
- Conducting reports, studies, and analyses
- Evaluating BOTAŞ’s infrastructure readiness for hydrogen storage and distribution
- Preparing a national hydrogen master network plan
As part of the implementation phase, the EU has launched a tender on its Funding & Tenders Portal, inviting bids to carry out the project’s objectives. The deadline for submissions is July 15.
This initiative reflects a growing commitment between the EU and Turkey to cooperate on energy transition and climate goals, with hydrogen seen as a key component in decarbonizing heavy industry and energy systems.
