Tool steel exports from the United States jumped by 38.5 percent in March 2025 compared to February, according to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Commerce. The U.S. exported 7,184 metric tons (mt) of tool steel in March, marking a 20.6 percent increase year-over-year.
By value, March exports reached $15.6 million, a significant rise from $11.4 million in February and $12.8 million in March 2024.
The surge was fueled primarily by exports to Mexico, which received 5,367 mt in March, up from 3,744 mt in February and 4,687 mt a year earlier. Canada was the second-largest destination, with 1,550 mt of U.S. tool steel shipped north.
No other countries imported 1,000 mt or more of U.S. tool steel in March, highlighting the dominant role of North American trade partners in this sector.
