Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev proposed to create a regional research center for rare earth metals in Astana, his press service reported. He made this statement while speaking at the Central Asia – European Union summit in Samarkand.

“The President proposed to create a Regional Research Center for Rare Earth Metals in Astana, which could become a source of up-to-date information for enterprises and investors about available deposits, technologies and their development,” the press service reported.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan produces 19 of the 34 types of raw materials needed for the EU economy, including uranium, titanium, copper, lithium, cobalt, tungsten and many others. In addition, Kazakhstan, together with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, is implementing projects in the field of geological exploration and introducing advanced and sustainable practices in the mining industry.
