US-based mills, including Steel Dynamics, Nucor, and US Steel, have asked the Department of Commerce to investigate CORE steel imports. They are seeking antidumping measures against several countries and countervailing duties on Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and Vietnam.
The petition claims that these imports harm the US steel industry and could cause more damage without intervention. Increased production capacity in countries like Turkey, Brazil, and Vietnam adds to concerns about rising exports.
Tat Metal Çelik plans to nearly double its galvanized steel capacity. ArcelorMittal Brazil expanded its Vega do Sul plant’s capacity from 1.6 million to 2.2 million mt. Ternium Mexico and Nam Kim Steel are launching new lines in 2025 and 2026.
